چکیده

This paper presents a non-binary polar coding scheme that can reach the equidistant distant spectrum bound for discrete memoryless channels. This is the best that can be reached up to now and is tight for additive white Gaussian channels. To do this, we first define the equidistant property for the polarizing transforms. We have designed transforms that have better distance characteristics using a simple procedure for signal sets. Furthermore, we designed a new four-component signal set in two dimensions to define the equidistant transform for q = 4. We follow Şaşoğlu’s work, which introduces polarizing transforms of all channels for any input alphabet size and defines some constraints to avoid a polarization anomaly. Alternatively, we removed the negative effect of the anomaly on polarization by using transforms with appropriate distance properties. Finally, the speed of polarization is significantly increased by using the proposed transforms with better distance characteristics. Moreover, we show improvement in error performance. Index Terms Channel polarization, equidistant channel, non-binary polar codes, phase shift keying, polarizing transform, signal set design.

Spectral Analysis of Irregularly Sampled Data with Time Series Models

Slotted resampling transforms an irregularly sampled process into an equidistant missing-data problem. Equidistant resampling inevitably causes bias, due to aliasing and the shift of the irregular observation times to an equidistant grid. Taking a slot width smaller than the resampling time can diminish the shift bias. A dedicated estimator for time series models of multiple slotted data sets w...

A test for stationarity for spatio-temporal data

Many random phenomena in the environmental and geophysical sciences are functions of both space and time; these are usually called spatio-temporal processes. Typically, the spatio-temporal process is observed over discrete equidistant time and at irregularly spaced locations in space. One important aim is to develop statistical models based on what is observed. While doing so a commonly used as...

Polarizing beam-splitter based on defective photonic crystals

The performance of a polarizing beam splitter based on the one-dimensional photonic crystals (1D-PCs), is theoretically investigated. The polarizing beam splitter consists of a symmetric stack of the low-index quarter-wave plates and the high-index half-wave plates with a central defect layer of air. The linear transmission properties of the polarizing beam splitter are numerically simulat...

Moments and Fourier transforms of B-splines

The problem o f determining the moments and the Fourier transforms o f B-splines with arbitrary knots is considered. There exists a simple connect ion between the moments o f such splines and the so-called extended Stirling numbers o f the second kind which are defined in section 2. Some recurrence relations for the moments o f B-splines with arbitrary knots are given in section 3. In the case ...

Good equidistant codes constructed from certain combinatorial designs

An (n,M, d; q) code is called equidistant code if the Hamming distance between any two codewords is d. It was proved that for any equidistant (n,M, d; q) code, d nM(q − 1)/(M − 1)q(= dopt, say). A necessary condition for the existence of an optimal equidistant code is that dopt be an integer. If dopt is not an integer, i.e. the equidistant code is not optimal, then the code with d = dopt is cal...
